I don’t have a lot of friends. I have a lot of acquaintances. I am a really bad person at keeping friendships. Why? Because friends expect a lot.
If you expect me to meet you at least once a month, I can’t do it. It is a task to get me out of my home without a valid purpose. Hanging out just like that is seriously not my thing. I’d like to have a meaningful conversation with you.
If you expect me to drop you a text on my own just to know if you’re alive or not, I won’t do it. (If I do, either you gotta help me out with something or it’s your birthday.) And if I message you on my own, trust me, the sun didn’t rise from the east. You need to take me to a doctor. But yes, if you initiate a meaningful conversation, I won’t make you feel unwanted.
If I don’t reply back to your messages in time, I am busy. I will definitely get back to you. In an hour, in a day or two. If I don’t get back, either I forgot to reply you back (you have the permission to scold me) or I am ignoring you (and you know which category you fall into).
If you expect me to pick up my phone every time you give me a call, I won’t. My phone must have been on silent mode. If I call you back or drop a message, then you’re lucky and if I don’t, either you called from an unknown number or my phone was ringing but I didn’t care to pick it up.
If you expect me to promise you a lifelong friendship, I can’t. Because I can’t live up to your expectations.
I choose low maintenance friends who respect my space. And there are definitely no forever promises.

In the end, the best kind of friends are the ones who understand us and aren’t too demanding. Friends like that are to die for.

I’m glad you could connect with it. It takes a lot of time to make yourself understand that people’s expectations don’t matter that much.

Shayaan, I knew you would. Over the past two years that I’ve known you, I saw so many similarities in our personalities. Glad that I found a friend who’s so much like me. 🙂

I think after an age you find it difficult to make friends. Its happening with me. I too have a lot of acquaintances but always looking for a friend. Its happy and peaceful to be alone rather giving a new relationship test everyday.

Yes, but why do I feel that that age has come too early for me? I’m in my early 20s only. All my classmates, they have loads of friends. But I shy away from having the kind of friendship they have.
