“How can you love yourself so much?” some asked.
“It’s selfish to love yourself this much,” others said.
I replied,
“I’ve hated myself
For a long time
For the things
That weren’t under my control,
For the dreams
That I had to leave behind,
For the decisions
That were meant to be taken,
For the mistakes
That made me learn,
For the failures
That kept me going.
It took me years
To realise
That I blamed myself wrongly
For all the wrong
That happened to me.
And now that I’ve realised this
It doesn’t matter
If you find me selfish
Or if you are jealous
Of my love for self.”

Beautiful post. It nearly brought tears to my eyes because I’ve been through this. I’m still learning to love myself.

Thankyou so much Barb! I know it’s a difficult journey for some of us. I won’t say that I’ve learnt it completely, but I’m still in the process. It feels beautiful to love yourself 💙💙

Loving our own self is not being selfish. Though we love our self after we are fed up loving others and not getting the same love in return… 🙂
You aren’t selfish, you are your priority! 😉
