I am fortunate… A to Z 2020

F for Fortunate

While watching Taare Zameen Par… Every Child is Special (Like Stars on Earth… Every Child is Special) recently, I felt like I could connect with the character of Ishaan Awasthi. The movie is about the struggles of a dyslexic child but what I connected with was a particular dialogue of Nikumbh. When Nikumbh meets Ishaan’s parents, he tells them that Ishaan gives an excuse that he doesn’t want to study instead of saying that he doesn’t understand things, I could relate to his words.

Nikumbh says that particular dialogue I am talking about immediately after the video ends. But I couldn’t find this scene with subtitles in any other video.

When I look back now, I realise that even before my love for words evolved, I had discovered my love for photography. No doubt, I am more close to words today but my camera will always hold a special place in my life.

Just like Ishaan gave up painting (for some time), when I was about to give up a lot of things, a camera was bought for me. (I am not a great photographer, I just like to freeze moments that make me happy. :P)

The other day, I was talking to a friend whom I have known for 22 years. K told me that when she looks back to our schooltime now, she sees that I was always meant to be a journalist.

I don’t think that I was ever meant to be a hardcore journalist. I think that she was saying all of this so that we can accept the past.

Her words sounded like consolation for me but felt like consolation for herself. I could sense that she was doing her best to accept her past so that she could be happy in present. Maybe she needed a similar validation from me.

When I retrospect, I see that my journey which was meant to be conventional ended up being tedhi-medhi (zigzag) all because I took a conventional decision at a very wrong time. But I am glad that the decision was made, otherwise I wouldn’t have been here today.
