Music Month May #1 Zindagi Ki Yehi Reet Hai

Apinder has come up with Music Month (May) challenge where we share a song and give an insight into why we like it.

My first pick is a song from Mr India.

I heard this song for the first time in a TV show. The lead character always used pick up his guitar and sing it with his family. The lyrics of the song go like this:

Zindagi Ki Yehi Reet Hai
Haar Ke Baad Hi Jeet Hai – 2
Thode Aansu Hai, Thodi Hasi
Aaj Gham Hai To Kal Hai Khushi

(Life has this ritual
There is victory only after loss
There are some tears, some laughter
If it’s gloomy today, tomorrow will he happy)

And the lyrics promise a life which not completely black, but one that’s a mixture of black and white.

After listening to the song a lot of times, I finally Googled up from which movie it was. Obviously, it was an old movie because they lead character of the show was given an old singer’s voice.

It turned out to be Mr India. I hadn’t watched the movie in from start to end. So this song prompted me watch it in one go.

Just now, I Google up when that TV show was premiered. It was year 2012 and that makes it more clear why I loved the song. It was a song that gave me hope in hard times.

And just before starting this post, I realised that it’s a Kishore Kumar song (Okay,, Kishore da fans can kill me). It’s just that I am not into music too much so I don’t really bother myself looking up who sang and other details like that.

  1. What a lovely song choice and from one of my favourite movies (80s yaar). It was very fitting for the film, Anil Kapoor down on his luck in the movie discovers a watch that makes any person who wears it invisible. I loved the film because it had a strong cast with the Late Sri Devi and Late Amrish Puri, both iconic actors – lovely songs and just an overall ‘good feel movie’.

    1. To be honest, the adult in me felt the movie was a lot stupid when I watched it. But then the kid in me felt it was not that bad. 😛
