A piece of a common man’s opinion on Indian media’s coverage of rape and sexual violence.
Ritum Singh, an IT profession in Kolkata says-
I have noticed rape and harassment stories occupying more space in The Hindu in the past one year. There are reports almost every day.
I read some of them. If there are many, I ignore. Most of them read the same to me, and when I read such reports, I feel sad and angry at the same time. There is nothing much I can do about it.
Some people say the way the victim is dressed causes men to rape. Think about that: how can a four-month-old girl or a child in kindergarten attract men by the clothes she wears?

I found it interesting that he identifies compulsory self-defence training for girls as being useful, but there is no mention of educating boys about consent.

Yeah I agree, educating boys is also important. Infact think that there is another angle to it. Boys are also sexually assaulted and we hardly talk about that. I guess there are many loop holes everywhere which need attention.
